Start the School Year With a Smile: 3 Back-to-School Tips

A checklist written out of back to school for children

It’s almost the start of a new school year and you are probably thinking about getting your child ready with new clothes and school supplies. Be sure not to forget about their teeth and mouth! Here are our back to school dental tips to make sure your child is starting the school year off with their biggest smile.

Get Your Child Ready for the School Year

    1. Before your child goes back to school, make sure you schedule an appointment with their pediatric dentist to get a dental exam and dental cleaning. You can ask your dentist any questions you may have, and they may talk to you about fluoride and sealants for your child. Those treatments are an easy way to protect your child’s teeth from any tooth decay and prevent cavities. This is proven to even help your child in school.
    2. Send them to school with the right snacks. You should swap out lunch no-nos with some healthy options. Instead of chips or crackers, try to nuts. Salty snacks may seem healthy because they don’t have sugar, but starches can be just as bad. These snacks break down into a sticky goo that coats and sticks to the teeth to prevent tooth decay.
    3. Make brushing and flossing fun. In order to keep your child’s mouth healthy, they need to brush twice a day and floss once a day. To make them more inclined to brush, you can try some fun incentives. One idea would be a sticker chart, where they could put a sticker on a calendar for every day they achieved this. Then at the end of the month they can get a reward. You can also let them pick out their toothbrush and toothpaste.

If you want to schedule a dental appointment with the best children’s dentist in Chicago, turn to All Star Dental.
