Restorative Procedures - Fillings, Crowns, Bridges
If a tooth is damaged, our goal is usually to protect the tooth and prevent further damage. There are a variety of ways we can do this. For example, a small amount of dental decay can cause a dental cavity. In that case, we would clean out the decayed section of the tooth and use a filling to prevent future decay. In the case where decay has infected the root of a tooth, our teams can provide a root canal treatment that removes the decayed tooth root and replaces it. If a tooth has significant damage at the chewing surface, including cavities, chips, or cracks, we can use a dental crown to protect the tooth.
Unfortunately, in some cases, a tooth will not be saveable or will already be lost. In that situation, we can use a dental bridge, which relies on the surrounding healthy teeth to hold the false tooth or teeth in place. Dental bridges are an effective tooth replacement treatment that can last long-term if properly cared for.
Replacing Lost Fillings, Crowns, or Dental Bridges
Our teams can also help with replacing lost fillings. Much like teeth, filling materials are designed to be strong, but they can also be damaged. Sometimes an injury can cause a filling to break and fall out. In other situations, new decay can cause cavities to form next to a filling, leading to the filling loosening and falling out over time. In either case, our team can help replace the lost filling.
Like fillings, dental crowns can also get damaged. A crown can chip or develop a crack. Decay can also form between a crown and a tooth, which can cause the crown to loosen and eventually break. This is why patients with crowns should always see the dentist at least twice a year to track for signs of damage. If a crown is showing signs of wear and tear, our team can help replace the crown. Likewise, we can help design and replace dental bridges if there is an issue with a bridge.

Frequently Asked Questions About Restorative Dentistry
What Are Restorative Dental Treatments?
During your routine dental visits, you will usually receive preventive dental care. These are treatments that are designed to help avoid dental issues in the future. But for patients who have damaged or decayed teeth, you may need restorative dental procedures. This can be anything from a filling or root canal to completely replacing a tooth with a dental bridge. These treatments help patients by removing the damage and replacing part or all of a tooth with a dental restoration.
What Restorative Dental Procedures Do We Provide in Chicago?
Here at All Star Dental, we have five offices throughout the Chicago area where we provide dental restorations. We provide fillings, root canal treatments, dental crowns, and dental bridges. We do not provide treatments like dental implants or oral surgeries, but we can help recommend other providers for patients who need surgical procedures. At All Star Dental, our goal is to help patients of all ages improve and maintain their oral health long-term.
How Long Do Dental Bridges Last?
A dental bridge helps replace a lost tooth. They can last anywhere from 5 to 15 years, and in some cases, they can last for well over 20 years. But there are a lot of factors at play that will impact how long a bridge lasts. First and foremost, how a patient cares for their dental bridge plays the largest role in how long the bridge will last. If you are not brushing, flossing, and seeing the dentist twice a year, you greatly increase the risk of new dental decay forming, which can cause the bridge to loosen and fail. Beyond that, the type of bridge you receive can also greatly impact how long it will last.
Do You Provide Root Canal Treatments?
Yes, we provide root canal procedures that can help adults and kids protect their teeth. Root canal procedures are necessary when dental decay and infection have spread deep within the root of a tooth. Instead of needing to pull the tooth, a root canal works by cleaning out the infected root and filling it with a special material. Typically, patients who have received root canal procedures will also need dental crowns to replace the top of the tooth.
What Dental Restorations Do You Provide for Kids?
Cavities and fillings are very common in kids. Unfortunately, kids are at a greater risk of dental decay, which can often cause dental cavities. Our team can help with a variety of other restorations, including root canals, dental crowns, and even dental bridges. While these treatments are less commonly needed for kids, there are instances where kids need to replace lost adult teeth or address damage to those teeth.
